What is a good fall color for me?

9/21/2016

In the beginning of the fall season many people always ask me about the fall hair color trends.   The most common question at season change is "what is the seasonal color?".  I always give general feedback first, then I will ask you a question that 99.9% have an answer for... "What color were you thinking of?".  My reason for that is because there are so many style apps on our devices, most of us have pictures downloaded as "hair inspo".  People always want my professional opinion first, as if I will have a different idea to change their look.  Or perhaps, revamp their current look.  There are thousands of styles and options to wear your hair different, however I truly believe it depends on the persons daily lifestyle and condition of the hair.

So, when I finally decide to discuss the actual current seasonal color with you, my answer is again different for everyone.  Maybe you are the rule breaker and like to go lighter in the fall and stay dark in the summer.  Perhaps, you have light skin tone and want the contrast and love darker hair.  For some of us like me, I stay away from lightening my base color so that it blends in with my skin tone.  It is always nice to carry dimension in the hair so it doesn't look flat and appears to have movement and texture.  I am an artist and when I paint or work on graphic design, the rules and laws of color are the same for hair color.  Layer the color to create depth for perception.

If you are the one to change your color by season, which happens to be so rewarding to have the option to, go with a color that is low maintenance and that can be easily changed back to your summer color.  One of my biggest pet peeves is when I have a new client and they don't know what the last color in their hair was.  Whether it was the technique or the products used, always keep a good eye on what's happening to your hair in the salon.  That way, if you happen to change stylists, you can let them know your hair history, which prevents damage and breakage to the hair.

 Bangs for the Winter

I have been asked by many clients recently, 'What do you think of bangs?".  I have to admit that I love bangs of all shapes and sizes.  Then someone asked me,"Why don't you have bangs?".  I also have to admit that I don't want to HAVE to deal with styling them daily.  My hair is naturally overly curly and I don't want to have to use heat on them everyday to maintain them.  Now, there are many products on the market to help keep the hair smooth and shiny and protected by the heat styling.  There are also more permanent options to keep those bangs under control like permanent waving, keratin smoothing and maybe even a relaxer.

I have a question the is commonly asked by people in my chair, "What style of bangs fit my face?".  I always tell my clients if they have a style in mind, that is a great start.  There is no way I will tell someone a style will not LOOK GOOD on YOU.  Who am I to say that?!  I am a stylist and I have an eye for what looks good.  But, I don't make rules!  If you want something why should I be the one to say, "NO, You can't do that!".  That's not my job or the right.  I can only educate someone and show someone that there are many options to choose from.  There is only one way for me to know that I may or may not look amazing with a bob haircut.  I have tried that once before and I can say that I will never do it again.  Great haircut, but that looked crazy on my big head.  I don't think we should be too afraid to try something new.  Especially, if the change will grow out in a months time.

Just a thought, why do some guys hate bangs? I never understood that, and I hear it a lot!  Some bangs in my opinion are super sexy!  Yes, there are some people who can rock any style and look amazing.  However, bangs are very versatile with the choice in length, fullness, texture and color!
If you have the urge to try a new style and you don't really want to change the length of your overall haircut, have your stylist cut some side bangs that suit you.

Thank you all for participating in my guessing game!  It's amazing all of you were right.  We are so excited about our little girl.  The feeling of a little daughter/sister in our home is so precious.  Every dream I had about our baby has been a little girl.  I guess it was a mother's intuition.  I just can't believe we were right!

I will be putting together your prizes soon and I hope you know how much I appreciate you all!

Avenue B Salon's Fresh Start!

Hello all! I have done it again... In case you are wondering what in the world am I talking about!  I have moved my salon to a new location.  Due to unfortunate economic turns my previous location was taken back from my landlord where I leased.  The building was rumored in early 2013 that my space was going to be leased to a new business.  There was a lot of confusion and lack of communication during that time.  I was also focused on my family and planning my wedding.  Finally, I was in contact with my landlord and he told me it was a possibility that he would move another business in my space and 3 other units.  Basically, removing current tenants from their business'.  I couldn't think of anything other than "SHADY"!  Therefore, I decided I better protect myself and cover my asset!  As unfair as I know this situation is, I didn't back down.

Meanwhile, knowing the end of my stay could be anytime, I decided to look around the Campbell area hoping I could stay close.  Rent was changing, and I was not able to stay in the area in my price range on short notice.  I love Campbell and didn't want to say goodbye.  However, I had the option to keep my business and go small.  I thought of something different, to work independently for the first time ever!  I found a single unite/office space in the Rose Garden of San Jose not far from my Campbell business.  It was hard to think of the idea to break up my styling team and work solo, but it was a good option for my family and I.

I have been working in my new location for almost two months now.  Thanks to my family in helping with the move and minor construction I am proud to say how much I enjoy the intimate setting.  I am in charge of myself and my clientele.  Noticeable differences in the way business is running currently and how it was previously, mean so much.  Thank you all my love and support in my life and career.  This experience is just another path in my life's journey. I will ever so adore and cherish these moments in my life.
